Las Posadas in St. Charles

the Birth of Jesus Procession on Main Street in St. Charles

Las Posadas 2024 will continue to accent the Christmas Season in St. Charles.  The date this year is December 7th.

We are back to a live procession on Main Street! We’d be delighted if you grab a candle and join us if you’d like! Participation serves as a good reminder that Jesus has come once, and He said He’s coming again! Maranatha!!

A non-denominational event sponsored by several St. Charles area churches, individuals, and community-minded organizations, the candle-lit procession moves slowly down ten blocks of South Main Street, lined with people who light the way for "Mary and Joseph" as they seek lodging at various establishments along the way. They finally “find shelter” at the Main Pavilion at Frontier Park, on the Missouri River. There will be readings of The Story, carols for all to sing, and lighting of a yule log, a tradition that began here in the mid-70s.

As we see and appreciate the preservation of this tradition which goes back hundreds of years thru Mexico, Guatemala, and back to Spain - the meaning of Christ as Light of the World will stand a better chance of shining brighter than the more prevalent commercial aspects of the Christmas season.

The director, Kathryn Byrd said, “Our goal is to remind everyone to slow down and remember what the season is about. Through this moving candlelit procession, guests really appreciate the sacredness of the season, and can feel the Spirit moving among the community. Watching the people stream down First Capital toward Frontier Park with their candles burning bright is a most beautiful sight. So many people have commented to me that because the world is in such a dark place, being part of this event brings light back into their life.”
